Polaroid Re-Awakening

Posted: Jan 6th, 2012 : By:

After a two year hiatus and many memorable nights at Wire, Polaroid are excited to announce we are back for our first ever Saturday night party at a brand new space. Musiquarium is a gem of a venue hidden away on the outskirts of Leeds city center, its intimate and raw feel coupled with its custom built sound system is the ideal club environment for Polaroid to re-launch.

Sticking to our ethos of quality electronic dance music across the board, we are delighted to present two guest DJs who fit this brief perfectly. Headlining we have drafted in LEO ZERO. Celebrated remixer of Florence & The Machine, Metronomy, Paul Weller and Davie Bowie; acid-house aficionado and originator of London’s infamous Boys Own & Faith parties. Leo’s eclectic DJ style rocks parties around the world mixing house, dub, disco and balearic sounds to rapturous acclaim. His debut album ‘Acid Life’ drops at the end January; penned as a love letter to Chicago & Detroit you can expect to hear searing exclusive cuts from the CD during this party.

In support Hamish Cole & Johnny Sleight aka BUTTER SIDE UP slotted into the gap left by Polaroid at Wire and have rocked every party to date with their diverse DJ line ups Jimpster, Cottam and Deep Space Orchestra. Rounding things off are our solid team of resident DJ’s who have enjoyed a busy period producing their own tracks, with releases on We Love, Mora Music, 3AM, Itchy Pig and Social Problem.

jayshepheard

Following a long background in music from drumming in high school bands to music PR and several years working at UK online music store Juno, Jay Shepheard first arrived on the scene in 2007 with the release of his debut EP “Black Label 19” on Compost. With the help of strong DJ support the EP gave Jay a good profile straight off the bat which was built upon nicely with the follow up EP “Black Label 28”. Both of the 4 track EPs received critical acclaim from DJs, music lovers and the press alike and earned Jay a nomination for Best Deep House act of 2007 in the Beatport Mucic Awards.

Along side his studio productions Jay is also building a reputation on the worlds dance floors, using a combination of DJing and Ableton Live software to showcase new, unreleased and exclusive material at venues and clubs such as Fabric, The End and T Bar in London, Hive in Zurich and DIY in Hamburg.  2010 is already looking to be a busy year for Jay with further12″s on the way from Compost Black, a stack of remix projects and his DJ mix of the best Black Label tracks from last year on the 3rd label CD compilation.

OOFT!

2009 was the year Ooft Music rose out of the Glasgow underground. Together with The Revenge on thier Five20East and Instruments of Rapture imprints they unleashed a simmering hotpot of exclusive edits, deep-as-you-like house, forgotten funk, 80s boogie and more. When heroes as diverse as Todd Terje & Prins Thomas through to Chris Duckenfield & Laurent Garnier are digging the music, you know you’re on to a good thing.

In support this month, Pete’s 50th are an ad-hoc party currently causing a stir in East London. The plan is… there is no plan. Operating out of Dalston sweat-pit Visions whenever they choose to, recent guests have included Soul Clap, Cage & Aviary and Serge Santiago.

Meet The Residents

Promoters and resident DJ’s Joe Morris and Nick Smith met through a mutual love of disco and acid house and have channeled this passion into running Polaroid, which has gone onto to become one of the most respected nights in the UK. Not content with programming cutting edge line ups, the pair have secured gigs of their own at some of the most esteemed clubs across Europe such as Fuse in Brussels, Dublin’s Pod and the End in London, earning a reputation as some of the most respected new DJs and tastemakers in the north of England. With gigs at Snowbombing and Croatia already under their belts this year, and more exciting dates being added all the time, 2009 looks to be quite a year for them.
