Polaroid Re-Awakening

Posted: Jan 6th, 2012 : By:

After a two year hiatus and many memorable nights at Wire, Polaroid are excited to announce we are back for our first ever Saturday night party at a brand new space. Musiquarium is a gem of a venue hidden away on the outskirts of Leeds city center, its intimate and raw feel coupled with its custom built sound system is the ideal club environment for Polaroid to re-launch.

Sticking to our ethos of quality electronic dance music across the board, we are delighted to present two guest DJs who fit this brief perfectly. Headlining we have drafted in LEO ZERO. Celebrated remixer of Florence & The Machine, Metronomy, Paul Weller and Davie Bowie; acid-house aficionado and originator of London’s infamous Boys Own & Faith parties. Leo’s eclectic DJ style rocks parties around the world mixing house, dub, disco and balearic sounds to rapturous acclaim. His debut album ‘Acid Life’ drops at the end January; penned as a love letter to Chicago & Detroit you can expect to hear searing exclusive cuts from the CD during this party. Hype. A word often loosely bandied about in clubland without much merit, but in the case of our next guests one which is justly deserved. Weirdo Police are no wet behind the ears, fly by night producers with one debatable hit under their belts;

Mat Playford and Tom Gray have been in the dance industry for over 10 years and boast several successful projects between them. Mat was the co-founder of the legendary Play Music record store in Leeds and has to date collaborated and released tracks with Darren Emerson, Tim Deluxe, Paul Woolford, Sandy Rivera, Robert Owens, Pete Herbert, Clive Henry and Steve Kotey. Mat has played across the globe from Ministry of Sound to Space and held his own with any big hitter you care to mention. Tom meanwhile, a diverse and accomplished musician in his own right is a record producer in the mainstream working across multiple genres for such major labels as Sony, Warner Brothers and Atlantic Records. It starts off with some slo-mo, spacey house and disco before getting into some electronc housey bits and straight up acid trax, and finishes up with a stone cold classic. Oh yeah and our new track is nestled in there for good measure. Read the rest of this entry »

This Bank Holiday we bring you one of our best loved DJs. Rory Phillips has been a favourite of ours since first coming to our attention at his seminal Our Disco parties and unbelievably, this is his first gig at Polaroid. Quite why it’s taken us so long to invite him, we’re not sure but we deserve a big slap for being so slack. Read the rest of this entry »
