Since 2004 Polaroid has been at the forefront of pushing new electronic dance music in Leeds, operating out of the intimate surroundings of the Wire club. The venue’s basement feel coupled with its brickwork arches, metal furnishings and custom built Funktion One sound system give the night a true underground feel in a unique party space. Never ones to conform to any musical genre Polaroid believe in playing good music, whilst drawing on influences from deep disco, acid house and contemporary electronic music. This eclectic musical attitude coupled with a friendly, pretence-free and party centric atmosphere has seen Polaroid become among the first club nights in the UK to showcase artists who have gone on to become heavy-weights in the international dance music world such as Simian Mobile Disco, Erol Alkan, Boys Noize, In Flagranti, Joakim and Todd Terje amongst many others.

6th Birthday

6 years!? How did that happen? It was only supposed to last a couple of months, but here we are 6 years older and not much wiser! It’s not often we blow our own trumpet at Polaroid towers, we prefer to let the music do the talking, but after putting on monthly parties almost consecutively for 6 years, for a small independently run underground club night its no mean feat I’m sure you’ll agree. We also think it’s earned us a much needed rest. So not only will this party be our birthday, it will also be our last, for a while. We can’t say for how long, we don’t know. We’ll still be around doing our thing; we just need a break from putting on monthly parties for a little while…
So we want to ask you to join us for our birthday and going away double header. As always the music supplied will be second to none. Joining us on guest DJ duties will be Phoreski, a DJ who shares our vision and passion for whacked out disco and acid house music. With releases on such esteemed labels as Mule Musiq and Eskimo and a regular feature at red hot London night Bad Passion, Phoreski has buit a huge following for his DJ skills and has spun at parties around the globe. A Phoreski DJ set is something so unique in its track selection, programming and mixing, that it has crowds flocking to the DJ booth to find out what he has just played. Read the rest of this entry »
Jay Shepheard 5th March

Following a long background in music from drumming in high school bands to music PR and several years working at UK online music store Juno, Jay Shepheard first arrived on the scene in 2007 with the release of his debut EP “Black Label 19″ on Compost. With the help of strong DJ support the EP gave Jay a good profile straight off the bat which was built upon nicely with the follow up EP “Black Label 28″. Both of the 4 track EPs received critical acclaim from DJs, music lovers and the press alike and earned Jay a nomination for Best Deep House act of 2007 in the Beatport Mucic Awards.
Along side his studio productions Jay is also building a reputation on the worlds dance floors, using a combination of DJing and Ableton Live software to showcase new, unreleased and exclusive material at venues and clubs such as Fabric, The End and T Bar in London, Hive in Zurich and DIY in Hamburg. 2010 is already looking to be a busy year for Jay with further12″s on the way from Compost Black, a stack of remix projects and his DJ mix of the best Black Label tracks from last year on the 3rd label CD compilation. OOFT Music February 5th

2009 was the year Ooft Music rose out of the Glasgow underground. Together with The Revenge on thier Five20East and Instruments of Rapture imprints they unleashed a simmering hotpot of exclusive edits, deep-as-you-like house, forgotten funk, 80s boogie and more. When heroes as diverse as Todd Terje & Prins Thomas through to Chris Duckenfield & Laurent Garnier are digging the music, you know you’re on to a good thing.
In support this month, Pete’s 50th are an ad-hoc party currently causing a stir in East London. The plan is… there is no plan. Operating out of Dalston sweat-pit Visions whenever they choose to, recent guests have included Soul Clap, Cage & Aviary and Serge Santiago. Read the rest of this entry »
